Owner and operator of Blacksmith Chimney Solutions, Matt Joseph, was interviewed by WHSV on Feburary 17th. We are getting the word out that chimneys need to be properly inspected, maintained and used in order to avoid chimney fires. An excerpt from the WHSV interview with Matt Joseph from www.WHSV.com
[Matt Joseph] said most chimney fires are caused by a build up of what’s called creosote; it’s a combustible residue that sticks to the walls of chimneys. Too much of that build up can cause a fire.
Joseph also said the kind of wood you burn will help keep you safe.
“You have to keep the wood dry. You have to make sure you burn seasoned wood. Seasoned wood is wood that’s been cut down, bucked up, and split and air dried for at least six to eight months,” said Joseph. Joseph said you should have your chimneys professionally inspected every year.
